- Product Introduction
CFY is an injection molding manufacturer with many years of rich experience. We specialize in ultra-high-precision micro-molding and micro-tooling with a tolerance control of ±5 micrometers (μm). Each year, we inject mold millions of defect-free micro parts for the medical, pharmaceutical, microfluidics, electronics, office equipment, and automotive markets. These micro parts include thin-walled, high-temperature, and multi-shot injection components.
From concept, design, and 3D printing of prototypes to precision tooling and flawless production, we can assist you in addressing the most challenging micro part challenges and meeting your manufacturing quality and overall productivity needs.
When utilizing this technology, three key aspects need to be considered. Firstly, "micro" refers to the size of the part itself, emphasizing small-scale manufacturing. Secondly, "micro-features" involve tiny components within larger assemblies. While the overall part may be larger, certain components or features within it are considered to be of micro size. Lastly, "micro-tolerances" refer to the precision and accuracy required for measuring the part. Micro-molded parts must meet stringent injection molding tolerances. These can sometimes be as small as a thousandth of an inch to ensure they conform to the required specifications.
Microinjection Molds
Once the product design and material selection are finalized, the production of the micro-injection unit mold can commence.
Regardless of whether the material is thermoplastic, organic silicon, or metal powder, the mold is the most crucial component for success.
Due to the small size of the product and mold (as shown below), the dimensional tolerances become even smaller.
The mold still needs to meet a 25% part tolerance to provide a good processing window.
With a product tolerance of ±0.01mm, the mold tolerance must be ±0.003mm to achieve a robust processing window.
Achieving such tolerances is challenging for conventional mold manufacturers for two main reasons.
■ Unable to measure ±0.003mm accurately, and difficult to make verification.
■ Lack of equipment or skills to reach these tolerances.

FAQ
Q: What is Micro Molding?
Micro-molding is a highly specialized manufacturing process that produces extremely small, high-precision thermoplastic parts and components with micron-level tolerances. The process begins with mold fabrication, where a mold with a cavity shaped to match the desired part is created. Thermoplastic material or resin is then rapidly injected into the cavity, enabling the high-speed production of components or parts.
Q: The Challenges of Micro Injection Molding
Most micro-assembly tasks require operators to manually pick and place micro parts using powerful microscopes and miniature tweezers. Manual assembly is time-consuming and expensive. Operators assembling such tiny components need a keen eye, stringent standards for the finished product, and must meet the necessary reliability for its quality.
One of the most challenging aspects of the injection molding process is tool design. The key to quality lies in the material used for the dual-sided mold that can withstand high-pressure injection without bending, even after thousands of uses. Mold design is an even greater challenge for micro-molding. There are very few suppliers capable of meeting the steel material tolerances within micrometers.
This can also lead to "parting lines." The narrow separation line at the intersection of the two sides of the mold on a plastic part is called the parting line. For plastics, this small seam is usually not a problem as it is only a few micrometers wide and is often machined off. In micro-molding, the parting line can determine the success of assembly and affect the fit of the components.
The overall strength and precision of the parts may be affected by the gate location, which is the entrance in the mold through which the plastic is injected into the cavity. Choosing the correct location for the gate in the tool is crucial to ensure quality and a stable process. Gates may leave marks or small plastic flow channels that need to be trimmed when the plastic cools. Precision is crucial, so care must be taken when trimming and finishing gate marks.
